Vinyltriethoxysilane is a bifunctional colorless liquid which contains both vinyl group and ethoxysilyl groups. It is known to have chemical formula C8H18O3Si with molar mass of 190.31 g/mol and boiling point range of 160 to 161 degrees Celsius. This chemical compound is formulated to be used as cross linking agent in production of cross-linked polyethylene. It works by creating silicone-oxygen-silicone bonds in presence of moisture. Vinyltriethoxysilane is also considered as an important chemical in glass fiber manufacturing as it creates stronger bonds with resins to impart better mechanical properties to fiberglass. Polymers treated with this compound find application for electrical cables for having excellent moisture resistance.
