Methyltriethoxysilane is a colorless free-flowing liquid which finds application in production of polysiloxane polymers. It belongs to class of organosilicon compounds and has chemical formula C4H12O3Si with molecular weight of 136.22 g/mol. This compound is known to provide superior hydrophobicity to polymer surfaces and also maintain high permeability of to water vapors. It prevents hydrogen bonding to treated surfaces and creates non-polar interphase to eliminate water interactions. Methyltriethoxysilane has ability to accept 3 hydrogen bonds during a chemical reaction. It has boiling point range of 102 to 104 degrees Celsius with density of 0.955 g/cm3.

High-performance penetrating sealers: Premium-grade penetrating sealers are easily formulated by blending 10 to 40 percent MTES in alcohols or organic solvents. It is an important component in sol-gel system.
Used as a surface modifier to generate hydrophobicity (e. G. Mineral fillers or inorganic pigments). The medium-chain alkyl functionality in unique compound properties when MTES treated minerals or pigments are incorporated into polymers e. G. PP, PE. Loading levels of 0.5 to 1.5 wt% KH-131 based on the weight of minerals or pigments are typically recommended.
